Casitas de la Sierra is a gated 55+ community in southwest Reno, tucked between West Huffaker Lane and Interstate 580 in the 89511 zip code, directly east of Country Estates. The whole community is two private loop streets, Sierra Leaf Circle and Spring Leaf Circle, holding 62 single story homes built between 1999 and 2001. From West Huffaker Lane there is little to see beyond the gate, which is much of the point.

The homes run from roughly 1,300 to 1,730 square feet with two or three bedrooms and attached two car garages. Lots are compact, around a tenth of an acre, and the association carries a larger share of the exterior workload than most Reno associations do: front yard maintenance, common area maintenance, the private streets, snow removal, and a clubhouse with a fitness room. For the amount of maintenance the dues absorb, they run below what many of the other gated 55+ communities in the Reno area charge.

At 62 homes, Casitas de la Sierra sits at the small end of the Reno 55+ market. There is no activity director and no resort program. The clubhouse is a gathering space, and the community's character comes from the residents rather than a calendar of organized events. Buyers who have toured the large amenity driven 55+ developments and found them too much often land in exactly this kind of community.

Location and Access

The gated entrance opens directly onto West Huffaker Lane. The retail, grocery, and medical services of the South Virginia corridor are minutes away, an Interstate 580 on ramp is equally close, and the Reno Tahoe airport is about a ten minute drive. Bartley Ranch Regional Park and its trail network is about a mile and a half northwest, and the ponds and paths of the neighboring Country Estates townhome community sit just across the fence line.
